Fact 21: Brooklyn neighborhoods (by themselves) are more populous than most American cities

New York City is gigantic by American standards – with a population of about 8.5 million. It’s comprised of 5 boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island.

Brooklyn alone contains 70 neighborhoods (listed further down on this page). What’s surprising for many people is that most American cities’ populations are lower than the combined population of just 8 Brooklyn neighborhoods.
