Corona Virus Dispatch from NYC, Day 148

5 mile run with Charlotte

We left the house around 11:30 am toward Fort Greene. The plan was to meet Norene and Maya at Timeout Market in Dumbo – about 5 miles from our starting point – and to get there in about an hour. This would be her first continuous run > 4 miles.

Going for 5 mi w/ Charlotte

dumbo @3.75 miles

At 3.75 miles, our pace was still nice and easy. The weather was still in the 70’s, and the humidity wasn’t overbearing. Charlotte’s running form is great – good posture, running economy, and her breathing is never labored. She’s a natural athlete who routinely outperforms all of her male and female classmates in strength assessments; things like pushups, pullups, and situps. I never imagined she’d take to running, but apparently, she’s really good at that too.

5.01 miles

We finished our run by going about a half mile into Brooklyn Bridge Park, just short of the roller rink, then coming back the way we came toward Dumbo again. We did about 4 fast running segments where we probably hit 7:00 miles for about 30-45 seconds.

Timeout market

It was a fantastic morning run, and one that I hope we’ll get a chance to repeat. We regularly run in the neighborhood, but I can definitely see that Charlotte is ready to go on some longer distance runs – especially as the weather cools.
